Default RPL ACS Application Queries

Hi,

I hope that I can reach some of successful RPL applicants thru this
forum.

My questions are -

1. Do I need to fill ACS skill assessment form (3 pgaes) with RPL form?

2. In section 3 of RPL form, how detail (how long in words) you wrote
for each CBOK area? Because I can see the space is limited by table's
row and column.

3. How long (in A4 pages) each project report should be? As ACS has
said 1000 words but I am wondering how can I accomodate my
knowledgeable CBOK areas in relation my projects in 1000 words? How
long was it for you?

4. Any other reports that I should include other than 'certified
copies' and 'reference letter'?

Thanks

Hi Fa

1. Yes you do.

2. I wrote them on separate sheets of A4 paper, and each were around 1400
words. I did 7 of the CBOK's.

3. Both my project reports were 3 pages long and both around 1500 words
long.

4. you need job references from previous employers, and evidence
of earnings such as payslips also help.

Hope this helps, and best of luck with your application.

Regards

Neil

Hi,

This is also an area that is giving me some concern. Although I do not have a degree, I have an ONC and HNC in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, which comprised a fair amount of IT related subject matter.

My initial thoughts were that it would have equated to an Australian diploma with a major in IT, but when I tried to get some advice from ACS they just told me that they were unable to give any pre-assessment advice and that if I had any doubt, I should go down the RPL route.

Having looked at some of the examples, there seems to be enormous variation in the quality and quantity of the RPL submissions (ranging from about 1/3 page to 2 pages per CBOK section).

There also seems to be a lack of guidance on how you capture what you have learned in the RPL. Some applications seem to adopt a long narrative approach providing more of a discussion, whilst others seem to simply list the areas that have been learned along with a very brief note of how it was learned (e.g. on the job, previous study, etc).

Any guidance available from folks that have sucessfuly had their skills assessed by ACS would be most welcome. I must make it clear that I am not advocating that people expose their hard work, but simply give some general guidance on the sort of style that is acceptable.

Cheers,

Mark (aiming towards ICT Manager and STNI for Victoria)

Mark

You remind me of some of my clients who have had ONC/HNC who eventually had to do an RPL.

I can tell you that a HNC won't be equated to an Aussie diploma generally.

If professional assistance in this area is something you're considering, feel free to PM me.

Hi Neil,

Thank you for your reply. Did you cover all sub topics in a CBOK or you
skipped a few?

Great help for me indeed.

Hi Mark,

It seems to me from Neil's email that we need to write as detail as
possible like story of learnings. It's true that if I try to cover each
of the sub topics in CBOK, it will take fair numbers of A4 for all
CBOK.

Please let me know if you get more in-depth guidelines. I have
completed project reports though not very confident and I am struggling
to formulate CBOK.

Hi Fa

no I covered 7 out of the 12 or so. A useful site might be

http://www.rplhelp.co.uk/

for some examples.

Cheers
