Hi

i've just booked my meds at Knightsbridge Basil Mansions, they requested that i don't have medical during a menstrual period. Anyone know why?? Are they going to do a smear test (i had one 2 months ago) or an internal?? What for?!

Anyone been there and can shed some light??

That's a new one on me.

You should have seen the double take the nurse did when she asked me when my last period was (to check I was not pregnant) and I told her 9 months (as I have a coil fitted!).

There was definately no smear test, just a blood and urine test (could be related to that I suppose, a little blood getting into the urine would be distracting to the test they do).

I don't know, but maybe they will want a urine test, in which case they don't want it 'contaminated'! Just a thought.

One of the standard tests on your urine is a blood measure. Higher than normal levels could indicate a problem. They may not get an accurate reading during your period.

I am an occupational nurse and it is most definately due to contaminated urine ie blood present can indicate infection or something more serious thus menstual blood would give positive result

Hi,

On the first page of Form 26 (Medical examination for an Australian Visa), first few lines in 2nd coloumn it states:

For women
Women should not attend this medical examination during menstruation as blood will taint the urinalysis.

No but place where we went did ask me to take my latest smear results with me. My Dr printed them out for me - no problem.
