renewing British Passport in Oz with PR visa inside
Hi All,
I had issues at customs last month as my passport is quite tatty from use and I nearly got refused boarding......so I need a new one. Typically I just had my Oz PR visa put into it.
I was initially under the impression that I need to keep my old passport (that contains my PR visa) and get a new UK passport and carry two. However conflicting to this I was told that I can give up my old passport and when I get my new one, pop to the embassy (or whatever) and have a new PR visa put in it.
Anyone know what is true? I dont want to surrender my old one and find I needed it and have lost my PR visa!
Thank you!!!

Sorry I don't know about how to get the actual PR visa transferred over though.

You need to approach DIMIA to ask for the visa to be re-evidenced.
There is no guarantee they will be able to do a printed visa label, you may have to make do with something handwritten.

When you get a new UK passport they usually just chop off the top corner of the passport and give it back to you.

A handwritten visa label may be more trouble than its worth. However, given the original poster's old passport's condition, s/he may just be better off with a handwritten label.
