The Real:::"Skilled Migrant - Capping to be introduced next program year" thread
#16
This thread is really boring now, I liked the other one better
,
Seriously, I applied in Dec for a 176 family sponsored (non MODL/CSL), with the intention of getting a visa around August / September, now it may arrive then, or later, who knows. the thing is, if there are no jobs or work available to migrants why should they (me) get a visa? I have enough money to support myself and family for maybe a year or two and then what?
i want to move to Aus to be with family and for a lifestyle change but on a similar par with my UK life (i dont want to be absolutely skint), if Aus continue to let everyone in without strict controls and a balanced worker/work approach then Australia will be no better than where i'm trying to move from.
I believe that capping is a good thing and all countries should have the b*lls to introduce this type of control and not pander to the whims of every one who believes it is their right to emigrate
i would however like DIAC to approve my application before I'm 45

I work in IT and applied in June for a 176 family sponsored (non MODL/CSL). I asked my agent yesterday what their feeling is on how long more we will have to wait. They seemed to think I will hear something in 3 months. I think they are being very optimistic but here is hoping.

Other threads are available on this topic but in summary, you will be at the bottom of the pile as there are 3 other categories that come before Family sponsored 176 applications. At the moment no one knows how long it will take to get to the bottom of the pile so to speak. anything from 12 to 18 months to 2 years. These are all figures I have seen banded about.
Good luck with your application though. Hope things do smooth out soon.

If 175 applications are going to take about 18 months now what does that mean for your police checks and medicals?
My agent told me to get it all done and submit with my application in January but I've heard since that they are only valid for 12 months so they'll expire before my application has been approved. Is this true?

At the end of the day it is all out of our hands now. I know for a fact that due to the financial climate we are in and the housing market as is, we can't move for a long time yet so not really bothered. It will be nice to have the visa in my hand so I have the choice.

I feared as much but thanks for putting me in the picture.
At least I know where we stand now.
Ah well, onwards and upwards.

There is nothing to stop you from applying. You need to be in the queue to get a visa and the quicker you get in the queue the quicker you will get one. But just don't expect to get a visa in 12 months, because hand on heart I don't think it will happen.
I hope I am wrong though because we would love to receive our visa as soon as possible!

However, it's much harder for some one without any experience to get a job, if you have overseas experience you can still land a good job if you search "smart" and easier if you have local experience. When I come here three years ago we used to say even if Bill Gates came to Australia they would still ask him for local experience!
I have heard the talk of protecting Australian jobs, while it makes sense in some instances, it's just not possible to have a shopfloor level Aussie worker declared redundant in a GM plant in Adelaide take up a job meant for a Doctor, SAP Business Analyst, Insolvency Consultant or a Facilities Engineer.
But we would be naive to expect a different agenda from unions.

I am in Perth and while the economy is not good at the moment, there are jobs for people with experience. I work in the oil and gas industry in WA and it is very booming. I think the media sensationalises lay offs, and that is part of the problem.

Thanx for this post. I desperately needed this optimism. I have got 10 months of 'Aussie' experience working for a major bank in Melbourne. Let's see how much I am able to leverage that ..
. One more thing, keeping this slowdown aside, what is the best time (monthwise) for getting a job in AUS? Like in India, it's cyclic. Since colleges run from July to May, companies follow the same cycle for recruitment. I guess Jan-Feb would be the high time for recruitment activity in AUS. Any ideas?Thanx

I still intend lodging an application.
I'll just put all my energy into getting through the TRA for now.
Right, what to do for a two year wait?
Can you recommend a good book?
