the quickest way?? UK to Oz visa query
Hi
Am NZer with English husband. Looking to move to Oz asap, as my husband has prospective job offer.
Is the easiest & quickest way for me to obtain:
Skilled Migration for NZ Citizen visa
and get my husband in on NZ Citizen's Family Member visa. Is this possible? Is he free to work on this visa??
Any help appreciated

Dear Homesick,
Quickest way:
Get the job offerer to sponsor your husband for a 4 year 457 visa and then
work out your other options after arrival. These options include you
sponsoring him if eligible, or his employer sponsoring him.
How could any Kiwi be homesick in the UK? :-)
cheers

Re: the quickest way?? UK to Oz visa query
Firstly, do you know if you're an 'eligible NZ citizen' (ie one that's
treated as a permanent resident in Australia) or not?
It's a pretty fundamental question, on which you need to be absolutely
clear. Check http://www.nz-oz.gov.au as a start point.
If you are an 'eligible NZer' you can sponsor your husband for
permanent residence. If not, however, you can only sponsor for
temporary residence.
Your husband would have work rights on the NZ family member visa
(subclass 461).
However, the visa gives no permanent residency or citizenship rights
in Australia, and has to be renewed every 5 years. If you were to
die, or if your marriage ended, your husband's long term position in
Australia would be quite tenuous and he would have no right to live in
New Zealand either.
Unless one of you qualifies for skilled or employer based PR, you
should strongly consider moving to New Zealand in the medium term.
That way your husband can get permanent residence and NZ citizenship
after 2 years.
