Default Providing Birth Certificate for Citizenship application

Hi there,

I am applying for my citizenship. I don't have my Birth Certificate. However, I do have my Drivers License from VicRoads and my Passport showing my full name, place and date of birth.

Is is compulsory to submit Birth Certificate for the citizenship application?

Is Passport copy not enough as the passport shows similar details

Has anyone had similar situation regarding not having Birth Certificate and the citizenship officer just accepting the Passport to confirm the date of birth?

Please reply.

Thank you.

Did you not have your birth certificate when you applied for your visa?

No birth certificate but I provided them with my certified true copy of passport. But that was nearly 5 years ago when I was applying.

Things must have changed by now. Just would like to know if anyone's citizenship application was accepted without a Birth certificate?

Just wondering if they would accept passport copy if the DOB, place if birth and full name is all they are looking for.

You should be okay with your passport providing you haven't changed your name since birth. If you do need your birth certificate and you were born in England or Wales then you can order a new copy from the GRO.

I would imagine if DIBP issued a visa with a passport but without a birth cert then hd could just provide the same for citizenship. However they will also be aware of which countries can provide a birth cert and thus may ask for one now.

If you use ID other than a birth certificate, you might asked to make a statutory declaration to confirm that you do not have one.
