Proof of marraige - 136 (moderators/agents please?)
Hi all,
Could anyone answer the following please?
I am applying for a skilled 136, and my agent has said that the only proof of my marriage that is required is a marriage certificate.
HOWEVER,
from trawling this forum, I have heard otherewise....that I would need to provide all kinds of evidence of my marriage.
I'd appreciate a defitive answer.
Thanks in advance
TC

Depends on your circumstances. Some cases require a mountain of evidence (eg recent de facto relationship, counterintuitive circumstances such as age, language and cultural differences etc) and some barely need a marriage certificate, particularly if there are kids in the application.

In my case, I send my application on May 2005, and got married on
August 2005. I put ENGAGED on the application. After the marriage I
sent the Marriage Certificate, but with the Medical Exams request, they
also requested more evidence of relationship. I sent the Religious
Marriage Certificate (as we are catholic, this is an unbreakable vow),
also pictures, receipts, etc.
Actually, this is what they requested for you to be prepared:
EVIDENCE OF RELATIONSHIP
TO SUPPORT YOUR APPLICATION FOR MIGRATION TO AUSTRALIA
The following points may assist you in demonstrating the nature of your
relationship. Please note that this list is a guide only - you may
have other forms of documentary evidence which you may wish to forward.
 Evidence of shared accommodation, for example, joint ownership of
housing, joint residential leases, joint rental receipts, joint
household expenses (eg., utilities accounts). Please note that if you
have changed address during the period of your relationship (including
defacto marriage) you must provide evidence of your joint living
arrangements with your spouse at each address;
 Evidence of joint financial commitments, for example, joint assets
and liabilities, sharing of income, operation of joint bank accounts
over a period of time;
 Evidence of public recognition of the relationship between you and
your spouse;
 Evidence that you have declared your relationship to other
government bodies, and commercial/public institutions and authorities,
and their acceptance or recognition of your declarations;
 Terms of your will(s), if they exist;
 Evidence of official and/or private correspondence addressed to you
and your spouse jointly or individually at your common address;
 Evidence of joint participation in sporting, cultural or other
activities;
 Provide statutory declarations from you and your partner attesting
to the genuine and continuing nature of the relationship, referring
specifically to:
a) where you both have lived together and where you currently live;
b) a detailed description of the nature of your relationship, including
social activities in which you have participated, domestic
arrangements, and any significant events which have occurred, and
c) details of contact between yourself and your spouse/partner during
any time apart.
 Evidence of joint membership of organisations and/or groups.
