pronunciation of Fleurieu
My preferred destination at the moment, from online and literature research is the
Fleurieu Peninsula just south of Adelaide.
Can someone offer a phonetic spelling of Fleurieu for me ?
thanks in advance.

Re: pronunciation of Fleurieu
Hmm, thought this would be easy...
The Fleur bit is not pronounced like the French word for flower, it's more like.... ?
Well I just asked a colleague to ensure I was correct, she said yep, and that some people shorten it (surprise suprise - they are Aussies!) to The Flury, which would be pronounced like Fury (but with the L of course)....so from there you can see how one might pronounce the first 2 syllables.
So it goes Flury-Oh.
You should hear an Aussie saying Leicester or Gloucester! Or rather they should hear us saying them...!

Re: pronunciation of Fleurieu
Rob,
I don't know how Australians pronounce Fleurieu, but if it helps, in French it would
be something like:
Flow - rree - oh
The stress would be on the "rree" and it would be a hard "r", the kind that doesn't
really exist in English.
