Hi All,
Me and my partner are wanting to migrate to Australia in the near future. I’ve been doing a lot of reading with regards to obtaining an electrical license and the lines are a bit blurry (for me at the moment). I’m wondering if anyone can help shine some clarity on my situation.
I’m currently working as an E&I technician (Oil & Gas) in UK. All in I’ve got around 6 years experience. My qualifications are:
NVQ Level 3 Engineering Maintenance (Electrical)
HNC Electrical Engineering
18th Edition
Inspection & Testing 2391
I’m wanting to know if it’s possible for me to obtain the Electrical license if I were to migrate or do I have to specifically be an “Electrician” as in domestic/commercial installation.
If not what what’s the process and where do I start? And rough estimations of overall costs?
with regards to Oil & Gas industry, where are the best states for work?
thanks!

Vetassess have some good info on their site - https://www.vetassess.com.au/skills-...de-occupations
First step is an assessment of your qualifications and work experience. The cost of this is $1280 AUD plus costs for postage, notary if needed, etc.
If successful, next step is practical assessment which includes theory test, and is $2200 plus costs for travel, hotel if needed, etc. They do assess in UK at various times through year.
If successful you'll get an Overseas Technical Skills Record (OTSR) which will enable you to do gap training here ($2500 approx) and get a first supervised worker license ($500). You then have to complete a variety of work supervised before getting signed off for a full license (different states may require additional testing / exams).
I got my license about 9 years ago in SA - I did indentured apprenticeship, ONC, HNC, and worked as maintenance tech in elec and controls. Skills assessment was Electrician - special class with Vic Uni.
Down Under Centre in London are supportive, and do assessments under Future Skills I believe - Google should find them
Work wise and you're probably looking at WA but can probably FIFO (Fly In, Fly Out) from anywhere.

Thanks old.sparkles, good to know that house bashing isn’t the only route. I’m also going to join an upcoming webinar by the down under centre, seems they are actively reaching out to help.
