Default Probation/Parole Officer - Can We apply?

Hi

I am currently investigating weather it would be possible for myself and my partner to emigrate to Australia from the UK

My Partner is a trained probation officer in the UK and has worked in this role for the last 6 years - She has 2 Degrees and has counselling qualifications.

Would she still be able to apply on the skilled migrant visa and do you have to have a job offer in order to get your visa ?

Also - is anyone aware of any Job agencies that deal with employing foreign workers ?

Thanks for your help.

Take a read of www.immi.gov.au for what visa you/she may qualify for. If her job is on the SOL and she can get enough points then she can apply for a skilled visa. She would not need a job offer to apply.

Parole/probation officers are state government jobs, so take a look at the different state job sites for whether there are positions available. Then it would be a matter of whether they are willing to sponsor. Usually sponsored visas are for temporary residents. Take a read of the DIAC site for visa types.

Hi

Thanks for this - Well probation is on the list so that's a good start, does anyone have any experience of working in probation in AUS ?

Hi Drthorne

Parole Officers in Australia are employed by individual State Governments, rather than by the Australian Government.

In Queensland they're employed by the Department of Corrective Services.

Here's a link to Corrective Services' information page, with a list of FAQ's that might be of interest and further links to more information.

Each of the other States would have a similar page; and you can find them by typing in the URLs: www.nsw.gov.au; www.wa.gov.au etc., then typing "Parole Officer" in the search box in each State's homepage.

Cheers
Susan

Dear DRT,

In fact your occupation was on the list for the ACT to sponsor people (they've just opened a prison in the ACT after years of transporting their lags to the states, interesting idea that :-) and it might be again when the ACT releases its new state sponsorship list next month. Failing that, sponsorship by the relevant department for an employment visa, as Susan suggests, is a fine idea.

cheers,

George Lombard

Hi

Thanks for the information, however it looks like she would not be able to work in probation in AUS until she was classed as a PR -

To workin in Porbation you must be :
an Australian citizen; or
a person who resides in Australia and has permission or a right to be granted permission, under Commonwealth law, to remain in Australia indefinitely;
