Hi
I'm a 27 yr old male, qualified teacher, specialising in music.
I've pretty much had enough of living where I do as i've been waiting 27 years for something to happen!!!
I have a house in Swansea, which isn't gonna be a big plus in today's climate, but i've no wife or kids and a very supportive family.
I'd love to know anyone's experience, advice, opinions, good or bad, teaching or not teaching related, where's nice, where to avoid.
I'd basically go at the drop of a hat right now but i KNOW that's not the way it works, so basically anything from you guys would be so very much appreciated.
It's basically gonna be the old 'starting again somewhere else' thing, but obviously I need to find out if Oz is right for me, and i'f i'm right to Oz cos I know they're strict.
I'll look forward to reading any stories or bits of advice anyone has.
Sincerest thanks,
Mark
PS I'm Welsh, will that gain me instant entry or block me from Oz forever!?

Hi Mark
I am also a teacher (North Wales) and am about 1 year into the process. I 'should' be moving over in April 09.
Have you ever been to Oz? I am presuming not due to your post??
Everyone has there own tastes in terms of where to live/work etc.
For me, I have been a few times and am amazed at how different the regions can be.
You have age on your side and, if you have sufficient experience, you should find that you have all the points you need to get in. Check the immigration website.
You could start the visa process off and maybe go over during the school holidays to check out the areas. Make contact with a few schools and try to get over for some experience. That's what I did and ended up with a job offer.
Good luck in your decision.

Hi Mark, a couple of months back there was a campaign in Western Australia to sponsor teachers from UK and bring them out here. I think the deal was you had to work for two years in one of the smaller towns before you could choose where you wanted to be. There was definitely something in the TES as I sent it on to a friend. This may be a fast track way of getting here but would obviously limit your flexibility. Worth a thought though.
May be worth contacting them if you are interested. Their website is:-

I've moved you to the Immigration Forum. Stacks of advice here and loads of people in the same boat as you. To start off with you need to check out the DIAC website for all the technical stuff. Also have a look at the teaching forum here. Although it covers the world, there will be lots of Aus info there.
Good luck. Lots of Welsh in Aus. They're not overly fussy

To OP if you want to see if you'd like Aus why not go on working holiday visa, tour round for a year. Or go for an extended holiday and see how it is for you. Not all sun, sand & sea, has many issues just as everywhere else does and works for some and not others.
