Unhappy please help me!

hi everyone! i'm currently in Australia on a working holiday visa and have been with my boyfriend(who is Australian) living together for 8 months now and we have decided that we really want to make our life here together.

The problem is that to apply for a defacto visa, you must have lived together for 12 months at least.

So my question is this, is there any way that i would be able to extend my visa or apply for a bridging visa so that we would have lived together for 12 months before we apply for the defacto visa?

At the moment, the only option i've been told is possible is to return to the UK for a few weeks, then return to Australia on an ETA tourist visa for 3-6 months and apply for the defacto visa whilst here. this just seems like such a strange way for us to have to go about being together and stressful.

Any advice you can give me would be great!

i was in a similar position without proof we were living together. when my whv ended i just did visa runs to NZ until we had more evidence and also decided to get married. then we applied for a 309 while honeymooning in sunny suffolk. this meant i could return to oz until a decision was made but i could not work. when you do your visa run be totally honest as they will ask you if you'r in a relationship with an oz citizen.
not sure if you can apply for residency onshore as i know we had to do it in my home country for some reson. above all, keep all paperwork. everything with both your names including invites to parties, xmas cards etc. and get a joint bank account pronto. are both your names on your lease? make sure they are. not tryin to tell you how to suck eggs but all these things will help whether you apply onshore or off.
i wish you luck and dont worry too much. if you are genuine you will get there eventually.

You have been badly advised.
Consult a registered migration agent.

Hi Sooz,

A working holiday visa can be extended; equally, you would have other visa options available to you to extend your stay, so I'm surprised at the advice you've been given. Call IARC in Sydney on 02-92811619 to obtain details of community-based migration advice near you, or find an agent. Best to do that quickly, since your WHV extension rights may be lost if you don't move quickly.

Cheers,

George Lombard
