Just joined this site,fabulous forum I must say.Can someone please help me?We have been deciding to migrate to australia for quite a while now and while I was pregnant for my last baby who is 1 years old now I was diagnosed with Hepatitus b chronic but not active,further testing on my family revealed my 2 other sons are also positive,hubby and 2 other kids negative so 3 out of 6 of us are positive.Has anyone been sent through that was positive for hepetitus b.I have never had a blood transfusion,never cheated on my husband,previous tests for my other pregnancy`s showed negative.I cannot understand how I got it,I was not born with it.This is eating me up,I have not slept properly in over a year and I feel guilty that our dream of moving to australia is lost because of me.Hubby is supportive but he is also very depressed realizing that we may not be allowed in.At the moment none of us need any medication,all we need is a blood test once a year.I have searched and searched and cannot find a clear cut answer on whether we will be refused or not.As you all know the visa process is very expensive and we are reluctant to lose the money.Hubby is a multi skilled maintenance electrician and has had a couple of companies willing to employ him as soon as he passes his vetassess.This is so difficult for us,my kids desperately want to move to australia.PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP US.

Which was your Hep B test result? If the virus isn't active in you then I can't see why you should worry. Normally you can only pass on the virus if you are positive for HBeAg or HBV.

I was tested positive for anti-HBc and anti-HBs when I was younger although I have no memory whatsoever of having suffered from Hep B before. It's very common among Asians (of whom I'm one) and Pacific Islanders, and there are lots and lots of Asians and Pacific Islanders in Australia.

I'm no expert so please seek advice from an agent or a doctor to confirm.

I am not sure as my doc just said that I have chronic but not active hepetitus b,he said all i need is a good healthy diet,no fatty foods etc and a yearly blood test.I will def ask him the next time.I am an Indian so he says it is quite common for us.
I am so depressed.

I don't know anything about whether it would be a problem or not but you could try emailing DIAC and asking them.

From the research I did I think they are more worried about HIV and Hep C than Hep B. Have you read the medical information on the immi website?

I think you should get some advice from a migration agent who specialises in health conditions and see what they say before spending your application fee.

What you say must have some truth as little one has just had final HEP B injection given at same time as Chickenpox jag. I assume that HEP B is already established in the australian population.

At the moment we would not be a risk as the hep b is very very low in our blood,but being chronic means that we can still pass it on to someone who is not vaccinated against it.I was reading somewhere that all babies,teenagers are vaccinated in australia as a requirement.If this really is the case then we would not be a risk to anyone unless the hep b rises in our blood and causes liver disease or cancer but there is medication to control the hep b before it turns to liver disease that is why we have to have a blood test every year.I have been researching this for a long time and nobody can tell me if I will get refused.
I hope I can find someone who has been in my situation and have been sent through.
My other concern is that there are 3 of us positive in one family,how would the australian government look at this.The agents I spoke to so far cant give me a straight answer,I am going to give Peter Bollard a call and hear what he has to say.
I am so worried tha we would go through the whole process and fail at the end cos of the hepititus.I wish I could find someone who has been through something similar.You know what I mean.
