Please help answer my questions about visa application.
Hello all. I do have a few questions for clarification.
1. My wife is on maternity leave and is a secondary school teacher, will she be able to count her maternity leave as part of her teaching experience when we apply for Australian Immigration?
2. Is it true that if you have longer experience then you will get more points for your application? My wife has approximately 1 year and 7 months experience from last two years. Before becoming full time teacher she did supply teaching.
3. How long does it take to get visa for skilled independent category class. What is the minimum and maximum time scale?
Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

I am not 100% sure on the maternity leave question, however depending on how long she has been on maternity leave it might not be relevant anyway. Could you tell us how much time she has spent working as a teacher and how much time she has spent on maternity leave in the last two years?
There are additional points available for applicants with at least three years work experience in their occupation in the last four years, but it is not a sliding scale. There are no points available for less than three years work experience.
A skilled migrant visa application can take a few months to a few years to process. Secondary teacher has been on the CSL, so it would have been one of the quicker ones, however CSL is due to be revoked in a few weeks so really it is impossible to say what timeframes might look like after then.

Also does anyone know how long the ILETS certificate is valid for?

Well then as it stands she has been working for 12 out of the last 24 months and thus meets that particular requirement of skilled migration and it doesn;t matter whether maternity leave is included or not.
As she started full time work less than 3 years ago, she would not qualify for extra work experience points, again regardless of the rule on maternity leave.
I believe an IELTS test is valid for two years.
