Many thanks as always Pollyana, once we have plans to visit ahead of any relocation back to Australia I will definitely double-check with Paul Hand to ensure the PR is safe.
P.S. Are you still in Brisbane or have you changed continents?

Sounds perfect. The south coast is great - Bournemouth is my go-to place as I went to uni there, but I do need to check out Brighton and the surrounding areas the next time I'm in the UK. Thinking of setting up base camp at Crawley for a quick family trip and exploring from there...

There are differing views on that. Strictly speaking, from what I was told years ago, getting a tourist visa should cancel the PR, However more recently some agents have said that it won't cancel it, you can apply to have the PR reinstated.
There's an agent, Paul Hand, who now posts on here and he has posted a lot about the RRV, maybe get in touch with him, as it seems to be a grey area.

Interesting, many thanks for bringing up the discrepancy. Are the criteria easier to fulfil if you left as a PR and haven't gone back on an eVisitor pass?

The difference is in where you need to be located (onshore/offshore) if the PR visa expired more than 10 years ago.

If you left as a PR and haven't come back since (no eVisitor pass applied for), would you say it's better to keep it this way if you plan on applying for a RRV in the future?
