Well that was fairly easy. I applied in January and had 309 and then 100 granted simultaneously. For context I've been married for almost 5 years now, and we have a toddler.
About 7 months application to end.
Interestingly I thought I had to visit within 12m to 'validate' it but I can't see that in the documentation., It just says I need to enter before July 2029. I can also enter as many times as I want until then and then after it looks like I'll need another 5 year visa
Anyone know if its a 5 year window or the 1 year I thought?
thanks

Have you had a look on VEVO to see what it says on there?

Unless they have changed it very recently, the grant usually says "Must enter by XX/XX/2025 (1 year from grant) and then "Must not enter after XX/XX/2029 (5 years from grant). After the 5 years you either need citizenship or a Resident Return Visa in order to leave/re-enter Australia.

I’d rather wait for the 2 year old to get a bit bigger before taking everyone to Aus! Coming back from Singapore he was an horror.
And going by myself for a weekend would be a killer.
Thanks

Going by yourself wouldn’t work everyone must activate their own visas including the child.

Yes so my 309 says that but the 100 says 5 years from grant. I checked VEVO and that says 5 years but I’m just going to call them. I’m worried that despite being granted the 309 not being activated will have an implication on me being able to activate the 100. So will give them a call soon to be 100%.

I called them up and they told me the 5 year 100 over wrote the 1 year 309.
all I can add is that I was awarded both at the same time.
the call using Skype cost pence and took at most 30 mins I think.

On a related point, Looking ahead to getting citizenship in the future - I had a look at the info on the Aus gov website - I see that you need to have lived in Aus for the 4 years immediately before you apply (with no more than 12 months total time out of the country within that period): Apparently the clock starts when you enter the country (or when your PR was granted if you are already in the country)...

Get what you’re saying but I didn’t read it like that. Activating it is setting foot not setting down roots. You could take a holiday or do it over a long weekend then you’d have the visa length to move properly.

Many thanks for responding - this is potentially relevant for me: I'm certainly not taking anything for granted but I reckon there is a decent chance I might get the 100 granted alongside the 309 (Married for over 10 years to Aussie wife, joint mortgage for 15 years, and 2 x kids who have been granted Aus citizenship) - this would potentially take the pressure off as far as getting visa granted then having to sell up and move in 12 months: its definitely doable but nice to know the pressure might be off a little if a double grant comes through...

Grant of the 100 alongside the 309, without having to wait the two years, is reliant on the relationship being married/de facto for at least 3 years, or 2 if there is a child of the relationship.
