OH's IELTS results are in: Listening 8.0, Reading 7.5, Writing 7.5, Speaking 9 Overall 8.0, so YAH HE PASSED!!!
The good news keeps rolling in. He was so convinced he had failed that we put together a letter to his employers and listed the advantages of them sponsoring him earlier than their normal 2 years with them. He had done his engineering skills assessment already andd we put forward a good argument and they have agreed to sponsor him as soon as they can, February 2009, and they are going to pay for it all, too. I love it when a plan comes together!
Thanks for the support and advice from this forum. i must say that it has made our Christmas to think that we can stay and Australia does want us after all.

Congrats on him passing the test - i've just been reading the thread.
I have just received notification that I will be taking my IELTs test on 17th Jan - I hate tests. Took me four times to pass my driving test hahahaha. The worst of it is, is that I teach Communication Key Skills - god help me if I fail. I didnt realise too that it is a full day thing - and I have to be there at 8.45 Sat morning - fleepin 'eck i've not seen 8.45 Sat morning for years
Oh well the consolation will be that I think I might hit on a few pubs once i've finished there before heading back back home!!!

Thanks for the good karma, hope all have a good Christmas. OH did "practise" a couple of days before the test ie I ran over how to write an essay and what he may expect out of the other bits, we did a reading test together we found on internet sites. he didnt enjoy the test (who would) and did decide he was depressed afterwards cos he couldnt even pass an english test.
now he feels like Einstein! Nothing stopping him now! The weather has cheered up, wthe builders are doing well building our new house, it's holiday time and good cheer is all around.
Hope all enjoy a great Christmas, warm or cold/
