Not an immigrant
Hi guys. I've been following this forum for a few weeks and thought I'd
post and say hello. As you can tell from the header, I'm not an
intending Oz/NZ immigrant.... mainly because I was born in Western
Australia! An interest in expat issues led me to this site (I've been
living in Thailand for three years due to a work transfer).
I have a few questions and may be able to help prospective immigrants in
return (I'm from Perth and still have a house there). What factors are
driving people to consider migrating to Australia? What leads you to
want to leave your life and potentially your family and move to another
country? What adaptation issues do you expect to face when you get
there? I ask these questions because I have a genuine interest in how
people adapt to new cultures (and Australia does have its own culture!)
If any prospective immigrants wish to ask a broad-minded Aussie some
questions then fire away. I know Perth and WA very well and can also
help with questions regarding social issues (adapting to a new culture
is something I have plenty of experience in!) and the Aussie engineering
industry (which is where I work).
Regards,
Geoff
