New passports needed

New passports needed
We got our visas and now making final preparations to go to Oz.
But my wife and son's visas run out in January next year so we want to get new ones for them before we go.
Can anyone tell me what the procedure is so that we can have the visas put in the new passports?
thanks

You may travel while carrying the expired passports that contain the Australian visas. Alternatively, you could try to get them re-issued for your new passports, although, AFAIK, most Australian missions abroad will not be in a position to re-evidence your PR visas this way.

Thanks Peter, yes I did of course mean the passports will expire in January...
So are you saying that if we get new passports, and keep the old ones which have the visas in, that is OK?
Theyre not PR visas, though - just 457IE temporary visas valid for 4 years. The visas were issued from London. I was expecting that we could have a day out in London, call at the Passport office and Australian High Commission and get a new stamp in a new passport.

Re: New passports needed
It is ok to keep the old passports. Although you then have the hassle
of carrying both.
British passports are more expensive to renew overseas than they are
in the UK, and the process is likely to be more awkward. It's
generally better to get new ones before you leave. Ask the AHC London
if they can stamp the visas in new passports, it may be possible.

This is not intended to be legal advice in any jurisdiction
of carrying both.
