Need to be in Oz NOW
Can any one enlighten me on what happens to my PR application(skilled desig area sponsored) if we go to Oz on an ETA while still awaiting decision.
My father in law is not well and possibly does not have much longer left ( brain tumour). His condition is deteriorating daily
I tried asking ASPC to treat application with sympathy and speed it up but received a reply from case officer saying "Not possible to speed up".
To try and give my wife some time with her dad the only alternative I can see is to go over on an ETA but am worried in case it puts our PR application on hold while we are over there
Does any one know what happens?

Sorry to hear of your father-in-law's condition.
Entering Australia on an ETA for tourism or relative-visiting purposes is perfectly legal, even if you have an outstanding PR visa application.
You just have to inform ASPC that you are planning to apply for an ETA, and when you get an ETA, inform ASPC again of it. An email to ASPC, or your case officer if you already have one and know his/her identity and email address, should suffice.
Simply abide by the ETA conditions, i.e. no work, no more than 3 months' stay per visit, etc. and you'll be ok.

Hi Rossi,
You are eligible for an emergency visa which can be granted in such
circumstances. Get a form 1002 from the DIMIA website. You will see that
you can apply for a subclass 302 visa onshore, but if you choose to, get
some proper advice first. A good place to go for such advice would be
www.iarc.asn.au or your father-in-law's local member of Federal Parliament.
Cheers and good luck

Re: Need to be in Oz NOW
Go to Australia on an ETA.
Keep Adelaide informed of your movements and make sure that they have
a reliable way to contact you in Australia.
If they want to grant you a visa, they can tell you so you can get
across to Auckland for a few days.
