Hello Everbody,

Is it necessary to apply for Medicare, Tax File Number, Bank A/C etc
if a family is just going to validate their visas and stay in OZ
for only say about 7 days and then return back to their home country.

Its not compulsory you have to do it, but its always good to do it. All of them take less than one day to fix

I think it's ideal to sort your bank account on your visit - it mean you can have funds transferred there from home and also have funds available on arrivel. It takes a week or so to get the bank account processed and get bank card/credit card etc etc.

However, they will need an Oz address to send correspondence to.

you don't need to do either during validation but it does get them out of the way. Again with TFN, they take about 10 days to send it to you and they will want an Oz address. Don't go to the medicare office at lunchtimes, the queues are huge.
