Default Need Info

Hi All,

I have applied for PR to Au in the month of Nov-2002 and I am getting married soon. I want to know is my wife should take IELTS test to apply for Visa? If I have mentioned she is a house wife, is IELTS need required or not. I think DIMIA ask applicant to pay Tution fee for that is it true? I am not using any Migration agent.. just confused..........

Pls let me know your answers.

Thanks and Regards

Read the Skilled Migration booklet:

- your wife needs to score an IELTS band score of 4.5, unless you can
prove some other way that she can speak English
- otherwise you need to pay an additional AUD2,485 before your visa is
granted
- this second instalment goes to pay for 500 hours English language
tuition in Australia through the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP).

Details of this are on the DIMIA website.

By the way, as soon as you get married you *must* tell Adelaide, and
enclose a certified copy of your marriage certificate.

Dear shivu,

Regardless of whether you mention her occupation as a housewife or not, she will need to prove her english capability.

If ASPC/DIMIA think that you wife does not have functional level english capabilty, then you will be required to pay AUD 2485 for her english tuitions.

The best way to avoid this situation is to take an IELTS before hand.

Read the form 966i very carefully for further details.

Go to the DIMIA website. There is a form there called Change of Circumstances. Fill it in with the marriage information and your case file number, send it to the ASPC, and there you go.

Nice to see you've gotten all our names right finally...

What's so different about your case? If you have a new spouse before your application outcome is known, you submit a Form 1022 and a Form 47A for your new spouse.

You seem pretty sure you will be getting your request for medicals/police this month end, aren't you

Congratulations.

To get married, go to your local equivalent of the Registry of Marriages. To go for your medical tests, go to the approved medical clinic with the relevant forms. See my above answer for steps to take after your marriage, provided your marriage takes place before the grant of your offshore visa.

The form is called "Change of Circumstances" cause it is for people whose circumstances change BEFORE receiving the visa. Which doesn't sound different at all from your case.

If i get marry after mediclas before granting visa, can i include her application ? I think DIMIA sends change of circumstance form with the medicals i wont be able to inform DIMIA about my marriage. Usually what is the time we get b/n medicals and granting visa?? How to go about it?

Are you having a severe memory problem or are you a troll?

You need to advise DIMIA of any changes of circumstance up to the grant of
visa. You can download the change of circumstances form, you can phone up &
ask them to send you one, you can email your case officer & let them know &
you can put it in writing. They don't always send a change of circumstances
form with the medicals - we never received one. Any grant of visa is based
upon the information that you provide which they expect to be accurate & up
to date. If you marry after grant of visa, you will then need to sponsor
your wife which will more than likely take a couple of months. Why do you
have to wait for your partner to finish her studies before marrying? Would
it not be less complicated to get married that bit sooner & have her added
to your application? If you are going for the "big wedding" perhaps you
could do what my sister did - have a civil ceremony early for the paperwork
& have your "big wedding" as planned in October, by which time you will
hopefully both have your PR visas.

Good luck.

Siobhan

According to the skilled immigration information booklet, you don't necessarily need IELTS scores, at the time of submission of the application. Please read the booklet for the correct information. But as I remember, if all your post secondary education is done in an institution where all instruction was in English or if you are a native English speaker, you don't need IELTS. You must submit proof with the application.

However, the immigration officer may ask you for IELTS scores later and according to what people write in this forum, they almost always ask for scores from people who are from non-English speaking countries.

It is wise to prepare to take IELTS soon, if not before submitting the application.

I agree with Vasantha. Usually, DIMIA would require you to take the IELTS exam if you are not a citizen of one of the six English speaking countries (South Africa, US, UK, NZ, Canada, Ireland). More so, if you hold degrees from India.
It will not be unwise to spend extra bucks on IELTS to make your application stronger. Getting more than 6 in each band would be a cakewalk for you if all your education has been in English.
