NAATI allows you to use "electronic dictionaries" for the translator test.
Are these devices like PDAs, or are they computer programs that you can
bring on CDs?
I have some dictionaries I use regularly, but they are computer files.
How can I bring them to the test? Are laptops allowed?
Thanks,
Zilt

Zilt: No, laptops will not be allowed. You can take paper dictionaries, as many as you want, and electronic dictionaries which are like calculators (I have seen many exist in Asian languages). You can take as many dictionaries and thesauri, but no personal notes, magazines or laptops. Hope this helps. Check out www.naati.com.au for further directions.

Re: NAATI vs. ACS
Hi again to those who took the NAATI Translator test!
For how long is the test valid?
I didn't find any info concerning validity period on naati.com.au and
in their PDFs.
Regards,
Zilt

HI Zilt:
NAATI test scores are valid forever. On your skills assessment letter, there is nothing metioned about expiry. This means it can be used any time. However, it will be quite safe if you apply within a year of getting the assessment.

Anyone who has work experience in a different occupation to their
nominated occupation should get professional advice or take a risk of
refusal by DIMIA.

Hi engin77,
This is great, but does NAATI set a "deeming date" based on the test?
In other words, will DIMIA consider your work experience as a Translator
only for the period after you took the NAATI test?
I'm asking because I've been working as a Translator for 2 years, but
I haven't taken the NAATI test yet. Will I have to work for another 12
months after I take it in order to pass the "Recent work experience"
requirement?
Thanks,
Zilt

Hi engin77,
This is great, but does NAATI set a "deeming date" based on the test?
In other words, will DIMIA consider your work experience as a Translator
only for the period after you took the NAATI test?
I'm asking because I've been working as a Translator for 2 years, but
I haven't taken the NAATI test yet. Will I have to work for another 12
months after I take it in order to pass the "Recent work experience"
requirement?
Thanks,

HI Zilt:
As far as my understanding goes, you do not have to get 12 months experience after clearing the NAATI test. Any experience before that is fine. Unlike ACS, NAATI (and many other agencies too) does not have any deeming dates as such. You should satisfy the minimum 20 hours a week job requirement for at least an year before lodging form 47SK.
Good Luck
