My medical experience

My medical experience
Well, my youngest stepson and I had our medicals today. I was very nervous after reading that some doctors ask you to strip down to your underwear. Needless to say I wore matching underwear in preparation! However, no stripping was necessary thankfully!
First of all the receptionist asked us to provide a urine sample to take in to the doctors. When the doc took us in she checked that I'd completed the form properly and that I had my passport pic attached. She then took blood from me and asked whether I had any tattoos. I do have one but it was done about 10 years ago and was at a "recognised establishment" as she put it so no further blood test was required for that. I was then weighed and my height measured. I was asked to cover one eye at a time and read the board, she looked in my ears and mouth. I had my BP and pulse taken, heart and chest listened to. She then had a feel at my stomach to make sure there was nothing abnormal there. The weird thing she did was look at my hands and feet...she gave my feet a push down and kind of felt my ankles (or cankles to be more precise!) Not sure what that was about!!
That was pretty much it for the physical stuff. She went over all my form and asked about everything I'd noted down about past illnesses/conditions. I am hypothyroid (and too chubby as a result). She was actually very helpful with this and suggested that I see my doc again as I shouldn't be feeling as crap as I do and I shouldn't be finding it hard to lose weight (I'll put more about this on the thread for thyroid disorders). Another thing I have is a heart murmur. I've had it since birth and it has never caused me any problems and I don't need any medication because of it. However, she now wants a report to be satisfied that there is nothing wrong with the structure of my heart I'm not sure how long this will all take - I hope it's not too long, I just want to get there as soon as possible.
All in all it was an ok experience. The doctor I had was fab - very lovely and put me totally at ease. The only thing that my stepson had that I didn't was his reflexes checked - he was very, very pleased that there was no "drop and cough"!! I'm not sure he will tell his brother that though as he has his meds tomorrow - he's very cruel and likes to wind him up!!
Sorry for the ramble I just thought this might put those going for meds soon at ease. Hope it's worked, sorry if it hasn't!

Re: My medical experience
Hi Nickie,
thanks for that!! We did have xrays but they were done the week before and sent up to the practice - all normal with them thankfully.
Sorry about the breast exam - happy that I didn't have to have that done.

Re: My medical experience
I had the breast exam too - the Dr was reading through a list from the DIAC and apparently it should be done on women over 40.
Fingers crossed for your report Yvonne. Since you have no problems with your condtion I am sure it will be fine, but it is hard isn't it not to worry?
Same to you Nickie - I hope your daughter has a urine infection which can be easliy treated. Fingers crossed for you too.

Re: My medical experience
Even if it is, OH and I both had a drink or two the night before our meds & there were no problems so I wouldn't stress it about that side of things. Obviously don't go for the meds hungover out of all recognition, but don't worry too much about completely laying off.
