Default moving to oz as a british sparky

Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well.

My name is James, and I'm a 32-year-old fully qualified electrician based in London. I have over 11 years of experience in the field, holding an NVQ Level 3 qualification, a JIB Gold Card, and having completed a 4-year apprenticeship.

I'm planning to move to Australia full-time, and since I'm under 35, I'm interested in taking advantage of the Working Holiday Visa. My goal is to secure a sponsorship while I'm there.

I'm aiming to continue working as an electrician and have been looking into the VETASSESS process. However, I’ve come across some challenges. To get my credentials assessed, I need to pay upfront, but it’s unclear how to ensure I submit everything correctly the first time. If I don’t, I might not be able to submit additional information later.

Can anyone recommend a reliable agent or agency who can assist with this process? I’ve done some research and called several companies, but I haven’t had much luck.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice!

Thanks in advance!

Hey James

Vetassess have all the information needed - https://www.vetassess.com.au/check-m...rician-general

As electrical work is a licensed trade, you will need to pass the assessment to be able to obtain a supervised license. Then complete some additional training, and supervised work, to obtain a full license.

As each state sets it's own rules and requirements, there are differences on what training, tests, etc.

If you need support, you could contact the Down Under Centre (London) - they use Future Skills for assessments, which are recognised - https://www.downundercentre.com/

I would also suggest considering applying direct for a permanent visa and not worry about sponsorship if you have enough points. Most (if not all) states require electricians and state sponsorship will get you an invite to apply.

If you do want to try sponsorship, you could try Skill Shortage Solutions (company based in NSW) - https://skillshortagesolutions.com.au/

In the Evidence Guide there is advice for those who are self employed.
Evidence of self-employment
If you are, or have been, self-employed, you must provide the following evidence for each year of self-employment claimed:
1. Evidence of self-employment not undertaken in Australia:
› A statement from your client(s) which includes the following:
› the exact service period (start and finish dates, including day and month)
› the nature of your contract and detailed description of tasks undertaken
› the name and address of the business on official business letterhead (if applicable)
› the name, position, contact details (phone number and email address), date and signature of the person making the statement
› business registration documents
› relevant occupation or business licences
› annual business returns
› a statement from a registered/certified accountant
› taxation documents citing the name of the business

MARA agent here.....the issue with WHV is there is a 6 month employment restriction which makes employers reluctant to hire whv holders.
