Medical:Heart
I am planning to file for my parents under contributory visa category. So before starting the process, I got all the tests done privately.
My father's X-Ray shows a little spot on the heart which is due to a heart attack about 10 years ago. He is not under any medication but watches his diet & take an aspirin.
Please tell me that will he be able to make through or is DIMA going to give us a tough time. I will appreciate if anybody can give me an idea about the success chances.
Thanks a lot

Re: Medical:Heart
Try to get his past medical records from his heart specialist on his condition. IF all is positive which does seem to be the case, there shouldn't be problem. If you can't get that, then go to a specialist and ask them to examine your dad and the report should go with his medical.

Hi Johny,
Obviously if there are any cardiologists here they might be able to help.
Maybe you should try a newsgroup like alt.cardiology . If you want to go
into denial then call it a "little spot" and don't mention his age and other
risk factors. No doubt someone here will reassure you. Sorry, I think that
this was a really ineffective way to approach it. Feeling calmer now :-)
But if you want an objective and professional assessment get him to go to a
cardiologist now and then submit the resulting report to a migration agent
specialising in medical issues. There's really only one of those, Peter
Bollard, who you can contact at [email protected] .
Cheers

Hi,
We did check out with the cardiologist and he said that everything seems normal. He had an attack about 10 years back and he never knew about it until many years later he had his ECG done for travel insurance and it came into it, we got him checked and only cholestrol level came up which he has regulated with his diet.
But again, I will check with the migration agent. But another problem is finding a good specialized agent. Thanks George for the reference. I will contact Bollard.
Thanks

We went for our medicals recently and to cut a long story short my hubby got referred to a cardiologist from the medical doc because of high blood pressure, when checking him out they discovered he has a leaking heart valve, the cardiologist said it should be fine as long as he watches what he's doing. You will need to get a letter from the cardiologist saying everything is fine, immi will not accept the medicals without this confirmation.

I was not sure about the DIMIA, how would they take it.

The only safe way is to declare ALL ongoing conditions.

Please do not be downhearted. Your fathers heart probs do not neccessarily rule him out from going to Oz.
We went for routine medicals and found my eldest son had a heart problem which up till then we were oblivious.
Son had ultrasound examination, Xrays and CT scan and consultant reckons son will live with heart prob and it MAY not cause problems until later in life [if at all]. Hence passed my son to go to OZ [similar situation to your father in terms of heart prob with no aparent probs].
Summary: DIMIA will not rule anyone out with a medical problem so long as they deem it not to be a substantial drain on the Oz economy.
Please do not fret. Ask your father to see a cardiologist and provide a report to DIMIA stating he has had no furhter problems etc, etc.
Good luck & all the best to you & your father
