We've just had our medicals done (or at least 3 out of the 4 of us - one to go). We were quoted £140 for everything (they organize x-rays next door) or £120 for under 16s. When we got there we were charged £190 each (£150 for under 16s). I complained and managed to get the rate I was quoted. This is a massive £50 hike, over 33%.

I know it's all a small price to pay for a new life, but it's not if you don't make it. I was looking at a massive £720 for the 4 of us, before I negotiated it down to £540.

Tell me about it! At the city we lived in until 3 months ago, the medicals cost AUS$40 a person, plus tests but our insurance pays for those. Now in this city, the doctor is this bigshot WHO consultant guy who charges $130 instead. Guess we'll have to pay for that...

our price doesnt sound too bad in comparison - 2 children over 12 2 children under 12 and 2 adults + i have a tattoo and it cost extra for a blood test £600 in all

It does pay to shop around! If you go enough of a way outside London, the
prices drop considerably.

We've got our medicals tomorrow afternoon £340 in total - 2 adults 2 children. I can't believe people are charging what looks like whatever they want! We're going to Sheffield for ours as Huddersfiled was booked up over the Easter holidays.

Wow, that's cheap, but does that include X-rays? £140 didn't sound too bad, for everything, considering some of the prices I was quoted but £190 seems way over the top. Especially at the doctor took maybe 15 minutes per medical. Having the X-rays done at almost the same location, on the same day, was a big plus, though, since we had to travel nearly 80 miles.

The breakdown for our medicals is:

£50.00 each x ray = £100.00
£60.00 each medical = £120.00
£40.00 each medical = £80.00
£20.00 each bloods = £40.00

Ours are separate though, we go to Sheffield hospital for the x-rays and then the medical centre for the medicals. Both appointments are for this afternoon so not too much messing about (I hope)!
