You would be better going somewhere else, have you tried the doctor in Milton Keynes? I also spoke to Hitchin and they seemed expensive.
It might be worth driving a few extra miles to save the money, Birmingham looks really cheap and it isn't that far if you are going to save £200 or more.

Hi Kevin,
We did consider going somewhere else because of the cost but decided against it due to the fact that we are sooooooooo busy over the next few months that we just felt that it was the easy option to go somewhere local.
What with work commitments, our on going extension, an intensive day release course at colleage, spending countless hours on ex-pats, and looking after three kids and a gold fish ( ), time, is unfortunatly something we haven't got much of..........Roll on Oz!!

My life is a bit more laid back than yours by the sound of it, no extension, 1 grown up child and I'm self employed and work maybe 20 hrs / week
Oh well, maybe you can chill when you get to OZ?

This is at the discretion of the panel doctor. If he tries to tell you that you have to have the extra blood test, just tell him of the guide lines and ask him to show you where there is any evidence of possible previous infection.
It could save you a few quid.
