Yes, there are certainly different groups within DIAC that are handling applications from different countries. That definitely makes sense from administrative purpose too. However I find it difficult to fathom where these terms 'high risk' and 'low risk' are coined from, and how are we so sure that processing time is definitely skewed in accordance with country type. The particular instance cited in this mail could be just incidental that UK team is a bit ahead of china team!
I believe there is no such timeline discrimination within DIAC wrt countries, and my hypothesis is corroborated by the fact that many april and may applicants from so called 'HR' countries are getting their visa before their 'LR' counterparts. samspace is a case in point. |

Yes I agree. I know a guy from HR country who lodged his application on 10 May 2009 and he has got an email from the CO. Likewise a person who lodged an application on 15 May has also received an email from the CO.
Visa processing times The processing times below apply to applications lodged with complete documentation. Processing times vary depending on 'high risk' or 'low risk' country requirements. Low risk countries are Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) eligible. High risk countries are those not on the ETA list. See: www.eta.immi.gov.au 75% of Business Skills applications should be finalised within: 9 months, if the applicant is from a low risk country; or 15 months, if the applicant is from a high risk country. It may be that now each team are working pretty fast, therefore not much difference in processing times per team. It does seem that the HR applicants have caught up with LR ones. Oh, and DIAC do make reference to these categorisations, please see extract from DIAC website:

Hi there , I also live the USA in Illinois. Could you please tell me where did you get FBI clearance.Do you have some phone number? I called FBI in Springfield and they told me to get it from Local Police and that dont issue those kinf of documents. I got it from local police station ( Sheriff's office), but not sure if Immigration would require FBI only if you are residing in USA.
I am also not sure of my local police checks verifies if you are convicted in all 50 states ( which is federal check). |

By the way can you pls give me the link in DIAC site where you have picked it up from? Thanks. No problem, here's the link: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/business/846/step-2.htm I had just typed in 'High Risk Country' into the search bar at the top right of the DIAC website, and although this is for a business visa, it shows that DIAC do prioritise based on whether your country of origin is in fact, high or low risk. Thanks Shaz |

Re: May 2009 Visa Applicants
Hi, good mates. I have a question: how do I know whether CO has been allocated for my application? If the online application status is "Application being processed further ", it means CO is allocated? Thanks a lot.

why not to use beupdate.co.uk? It's silly to jump from one thread into another ;-)
