Default Level of IT skill for positive ACS Assessment

Hi Everyone,

I have a question regarding ACS assessment.
The questions is that I would be able to pass the assessment of ACS or not with my computer skill.

I have been working in Information Systems of an organization for 9 years without break. This is absolutely fulltime job, namely it requires to engage in working 38 hours per week.

The tasks that I have been mainly doing is to support self-developed ERP package program(I am not the one who developed the program) and customize the this package software in VBA,.NET and SQL server. Updating new releases and give and organize a training to users are also part of my job.

I have no vendor nor international certificate of computer technology. I have no IT degree of university.

Therefore, I would need to go through RPL to be assessed my IT skill by ACS.

Now there is questions: Could the level of my experience be able to pass the ACS assessment? I appreciate if anyone has same type of skill and an experience of ACS assessment.

Thank you for your help.

Don't want to discourage you but in my experience the ACS are a roadblock to decent experienced IT professionals getting into Australia. They grossly favour academic qualifications over commercial experience.

That said however if you are prepared to put the effort into preparing your RPL then you should be OK imho with that level of experience.

This site may possibly be of some help http://www.rplhelp.co.uk/

Good luck.

Mate I wrote an effing 50,000 word (memory fades) dissertation for my RPL on my 5 year experience in IT and blazed through. I did it out of backpacker hostels. I have no IT academic quals at all. The RPL favours what you have learnt (and can apply) not what you know.

The standards are not that high. If I can find it I can PM it. Feel free to plagiarise all you like. My background was at that time in VB and SQL.

I had 10 years industry experience with 5 years J2EE, National Diploma in computer studies and professional certification as a java programmer.

I made sure my CV was sh*t hot and also had excellent references from every boss I ever had. This was enough for ACS and I didn't have to go down the RPL path.

What I've heard (from a migration agent) is that it depends entirely on the assessor. Some will actually look at your experience and judge you on that. Others will simply notice that you don't have an IT qualification and insist on the rpl. In my case it was the rpl even though I have 10+ years commercial experience and also had excellent references and was already working for an Australian consultancy company at the time

Thank you very much for the comments, you folks.

I do not mind to go down to RPL, actually I know I have to do it. No matter how many pages I need to write, I would do it if there is a possibility.

One more thing, how much is it important for an assessor to be working in commercial company or industry experience? Is there any problem working in NPO? I believe all I have to demonstrate in RPL is that I am a qualified IT technician, right?

I appreciate you kind comments.
