fascinating article, thanks for the link.
Wish there were sources that did break out the IT jobs into specific areas,
and also into FT, PT and contract.
I do suspect that there has been a certain downturn in the Web dev and
ecommerce area - just my hunch. But, that may be combined with a rise in
other areas, especially security.
I had a chat with a recruiter in Melbourne the other day (yeah, he actually
called me in the US to talk about my resume, I was quite surprised) and IT
Security is ramping up quickly. I hope I hit the timing just right.
Thanks again
Mike

Am I the only one who's noticed that the discovery of the accelerating
expansion of the universe coincides with the discovery that more than half
of email, and rising, is now spam?

Yeh
The atricle is very interesting and real !
I got made redundant here in the UK in December 2002, working as a software
developer. Having a First Class BSc Honours Degree in Computing and 2 years
post degree programming experience has done nothing for me yet !
I blame agencies and companies for taking advantage of the so called
downturn. Agencies for overlooking the many talented people who don't fit
perfectly into their job description and who work on commission, so only
forward candidates who are a close match, and employers who have the pick of
the bunch...for the moment !
Oh, and the Australian Computer Society (ACS) who haven't updated their
assessment criteria since October 2002, at least the New Zealand Governmetn
have recognised ICT as a future growth sector and offer extra points !
Keep it real
MG

Yay, for security! :-)
As long as pols get votes by leaving people in fear, and put in more and
more laws that companies have to comply with, I have job security. :-|
