Well, a friend of mine is a DBA and hasn't found a job in the 3 months
she's been here. On the other hand I am a IT security specialist and had
two offers in two weeks and accepted one.
In other words: it varies. :P

NOTE: This message was sent thru a mail2news gateway.
No effort was made to verify the identity of the sender.
--------------------------------------------------------
It doesn't look too promising at the moment - lots of recruitment companies
offering jobs to overseas people, which places some pressure on those
already in Oz that are competing for the same jobs.
I would say that you could be successful, but don't expect high wages, and
be prepared to take a lower level position, as least on arrival. After a
while you will be able to assess the position from a local perspective.
Good Luck

Hubby made contact with a company in Perth just asking if they would ever want to recruit someone with his skills.
They e-mailed back asking for CV. Mailed bosses for references. Paid him to go to Perth to meet and he has a job to go to in Jan when we arrive.
And he didn't even apply for the job.
Direct contact works! E-mail companies who do what you do and put yourself out there!

It all depends on your skills and how long you have been in the IT field. Australia has a high number of IT bods working here, so experience and skills are everything, forget it if your experience is less than 2-3 years.

My wife is a Hairdresser and we are actually going to apply using her skills. So, perhaps a bit of a change and some fresh air in the future for me. The only question though........is what? I do have a couple of ideas but keeping them to myself for now ! ! !
To Gags,
Perhaps if you actually said what area of IT you are in then someone may give you a better idea of you prospects.
Good luck anyway,
R
