Hi all
Had anybody gone through internal checks? (particularly from a high risk country). It looks like it causes months and months of delay and it is possible that the DIAC will never get the results back from their overseas post.
I m in sydney and got my 457 approved on 9 Oct 08 (applied on 30 Sep 08) which took just 10 days. Then I applied the same for my family (spouse and son who are at overseas) on 14 Oct 08 and was told by the agent that my case was referred for internal verification on 4 Nov 08...and still waiting for it to be cleared.
In the meanwhile I applied for 175 on 31 Oct 08.
I could not find any information about this check and no idea how long will it take? can anybody share their timeline for internal check. I believe it is the same process for both temp and perm visas...
Its difficult for me to pass days and slowly I loose my interest in working here. I m also worried that it will affect my 175 application as well. Any help in this matter is highly appreciated.
Thanks

Its not like that for everyone though, many are processed alot quicker. It is out of DIACs hands and the delays are from the country processing them.
My husbands country were in no hurry to do his:curse:
The waiting is so horrible, but it is really out of your hands which makes it frustrating.
DIAC can do nothing until the high risk country comply with requests.
You have my sympathy mate, we have been there.

Thank you, let me wait for some more time. But I still like to hear about more cases with timeline, so that i can understand an average waiting time....
waiting and waiting without knowing how long, is really frustrating.

Just to follow up Sam's comment, there are some "internal checks" which involve the Department confirming all or some the documentation submitted from a high risk country applicant and some "internal checks" which involve security checking. Either way, the processing times are highly variable and can require considerable patience, particularly if you've front end loaded medical and police clearances and then you just have to watch them expire.

Thank you for your responses. Now it is clear that the internel checks are killer and test your patience. Can I hope for a shorter checks as the visa I am talking about is for dependants and that too a temp visa 457?

If I'm reading the original post correctly, why would your wife and son not have been put on the original 457 application?
Would this alone not be enough for DIAC to run some further checks?

Hi Red_V_Roger
This is because, I was here and my wife was at offshore...what my sponsor's agent recommended was to file an onsite app for me and then an offshore for my wife...this is actually working out very well... i did see many of my colleagues doing the same way and all of them got their visas within 10 to 15 days and they are with their families now. In fact, one of them lodged his spouse visa on 4 dec and got the approval on 12 dec...when i see all of these happening around, i couldnt control my feelings and think I am the most unfortunate in the world...I cant imagine of waiting for months and months...
I am thinking of going to the immi office after christmas vacation to ask if they can help me or not....
Can i lodge visitor visa for her in offshore?? so that she can come over here, and the wait may become much easier. will they approve or simply it will make my situation worse?? If i do so, the high commisson in my country will see three lodgements pending for decision.....457, 175 and visitor..i am confused.
Please advise.
