My boyfriend is a UK citizen working for a global firm about to undertake a long-term assignment in Australia. The company are about to apply for a 457 visa on his behalf, but there is a complication...
He applied for a working holiday visa last year as a backup option in case his company weren't willing to transfer him to Oz and was given an electronic visa. We just found out that the visa was actually activated when he was here on a short holiday last month. He will be here in one weeks time and his company have not yet sorted out his 457 business visa and are planning to do this once he arrives
Im wondering what the implications of this are??
His job is effectively a transfer within his company, but if his working holiday visa is already activated and he enters on this next week - will immigration have to treat his application differently? For example - will they have to classify him as a new hire to the company because he has entered on a working holiday?
My boyfriend doesnt intend to start work until he gets the correct 457 visa. We thought about trying to cancel the working holiday visa - but its only a week until he arrives and we dont think that we will be able to make this happen in time given its the Xmas period and all
Are there any migration experts out there that may be able to shed some light on the situation?
Im really worried that there will be complications when he arrives next week.
Does anyone know how easy it is to change from a working holiday to 457 visa, and the approx time this would take, bearing in mind the application will be made by a big global company?
Any advice much appreciated.......
