Immigration after cancer
Hi
My wife & I have PR and been here just over 2 years. My wife's mother is looking to come over on a contributory parent visa but had cancer about 18 months ago. She is in remission and fingers crossed all is going well
Does anyone know whether the cancer will prohibit her getting a visa or whether it is possible.
All advice would be greatfully received
Thanks

Cancer usually needs to be in remission for 3 years in order to pass the medical.
You should get advice from an agent experienced in such matters.

I had my treatment in Canada, we are both clear of cancer now and we received our PR last year so good luck to you, cancer is a word, not a sentence. x

Thanks everyone. I have heard the 3 years before but will definitely tell her to check with an agent.
Hopefully things will work out for the best

I'd just mention that there are different remission standards for different cancers. Three years and five years are two general standards but there are some which can have a shorter or longer period attached to them. Make sure that your mother-in-law presents a specialist's report on the condition to the agent in question; she should also ask her specialist about usual remission periods for her condition.
