If you go on your dads visa and your dad is thinking of a 176 then you would already have PR.

would i be able to work in australia on through this though? or would i have to apply for another kind of visa for this?

You'd be able to work - you wouldn't need to apply for any other visa

The whole family unit gets same visas, the one you think of , the 176, is only restricted to sponsoring state for two years, so every other right for everyone in application is very much the same as for Australian citizens, with very few exceptions - no voting rights and no access to certain government jobs basically.
