Hi
TBH I was really nervous too because I knew if I failed it would result in a delay in my visa being processed, so it was real pressure.
On the day, I was absolutely fine because I had spent 3 weeks revising. I went to the library and picked up a mixture of books from there and I also ordered the Peter May book on Jen's recommendation. All the books were so different and approached the exam with different learning techniques.
During the exam I knew I had mucked up the reading part. There was a diagram that needed to be labelled from the information in the text, and I had struggled with this during the practice tests.
With regards to the writing part, I found this hardest to revise because there is no right or wrong answer. I drew myself a spider diagram and it helped me assemble my thoughts and ensure that I covered all the pros and cons. They are really looking for grammar and spelling though I think.
Lots of luck and please let us know how you get on

Once you get into the IELTS way of thinking, and you understand the stupid questions, you'll be fine.
Just remember, these are for non native English speakers, so don't read too deeply into anything.
They just want to know that you can read listen and understand.
The Peter May book is fab and I would have definately failed without it. It was so like the real test.
But I almost felt like crying when I first attempted the practise tests.
Good Luck.

I plan to stick my head in Peter Mays book when it arrives and not surface until 23rd Jan!!!!How are things coming along for you Lyx? Nearly at the end of this horrific journey!! Any jobs or things for you yet? I have requested to register with Mediserve agency work on the advice of one of my colleagues so at least I have some work when I first get there, doesn't look like we'll have a large heap of money to go over with once the lawyer has taken his share of our savings so we both need to start work as soon as we step off the plane!!!

Hi, I'm waiting with everything crossed to find out if Lily's passed her medical. I'm sure she's ok (she's so healthy and cheeky etc) but we're going to see the NHS specialist anyway. Panel doc seemed confident that it shouldn't cos any probs but you never know. I registered with health staff recruitment and they've been great and are keen to get the go ahead to find me work. We'll not be out there til end of next year at the very earliest, we are planning to validate (all going well) in 2010. But at least once we actually have visa's we'll be able to plan etc.
I was also thinking about the Mater Brisbane as they offer some relocation expenses. At least that would help with shipping LOL.

Woo hoo!!! We'll both be a bag of nerves on that day then!!! I am still waiting on my Peter May book coming from Amazon, should be here in the next few days so i'll be getting my head stuck right in it!!!! I just find it completely bizarre for someone who was born in the UK, resided in the UK for the whole of my life to have to sit this test......after reading the blurb on the Queensland Nursing Council page (which is why i need to sit it, not for visa purposes) it states all applicants must sit it so that they are not discriminating against non-english speakers, seems to me then by doing so they are discriminating against the english speakers Och well we'll see how it goes Good Luck to you, let me know how you go?

Even more annoying is the only English words a nurse in Qld needs are 'Yes Doctor'.

Re: IELTS - What book is best??
Picture the scene.....just home from nightshift to find the dreaded letter from the test centre, I knew it was from them because it had my own writing on the envelope!!!!! Ok, so heart starts banging, sweaty palms, dry mouth etc you know what I'm talking about
Carried it around the house for a wee while not wanting to open it but wanting to open it at the same time.....oh and desperate for my bed!!!
So after plucking up major courage I opened it and my heart sank Then I rubbed my eyes (vision was obv blurred from 12 long hours on nightshift) and my heart soared!!!!!
Listening 9.0 Reading 8.5 Writing 7.5 Speaking 9.0!!!!!! Overall 8.5
Happy Dance was commenced and as you can tell am too bloody happy/excited to go to sleep now!!!!!!!
So anyone who would like to give my Peter May IELTS book a new and loving home, please send me your address and I will forward it on to you

Hey Amanda......i still can't sleep!!!!!
It was awful so it was, felt like a teenager back at school getting my exam results.....even then my Mum had to do it and I just guessed the results from the look on her face!!!
Yeah i know they're doin national registration but we wanna get their asap so we're thinkin stuff the money we've spent thousands already what's another couple of hundred pound
Just need to get the QNC app done now and send it all off, the ANMC sent my file to them on 22nd Jan so they should have all the documents they need already, I just need to get my finger out and get it done.....maybe not right now as I feel I'm going cross eyed
How's ur plans coming along? We're pretty much done and dusted just waiting to go to court on 9th March to get a court order for my youngest

Well done, I know exactly how you feel as I was the same. I couldnt open mine and husband had to. I was hiding under the sheets while he did it! like that would make a difference eh lol. But, its done and dusted and now you can become a Queensland Nurse. Think from July 1st this year we can work anywhere as registration is becoming national. Think of this though, people have to renew their registration between April and June as it expires 30th June. Might be worth your while to wait a couple of months (thats if youre in no rush) and save yourself a bit of money

Re: IELTS - What book is best??
How did you get ANMC assessment without IELTS? Just interested.
Anyway, I know what you mean bout the money but the best thing is, is that you will only have to pay licence fee and not the whole lot with just re-registering
Our situation is same, just waiting for CO and then we will do meds etc. We are hoping to be there by September this year though
Really dont think my kids believe im going. Theyre grown up but we are all very close and i know im gonna cry and miss them so much. God, i cry all the time when i think about leaving my 2 year old grandaughter Niamh And I have another on the way But like I keep telling my daughter, I cant keep saying "O well, il just wait till after this as there will always be something to keep me from going. However, watched WDU last night and really happy as my son is a qualified carpet fitter, currently on MODL (watch this space) so just hoping my kids will join me in the future

Amanda, If you applied to ANMC before 1st July 2009 then you didn't need IELTS. Looking at Lorraines signature it says she got har ANMC on July 14th - same day as me!!! - so she must've applied about 8 weeks before that.
I know what you mean about hoping your kids will follow you out, I'm hoping my sister falls in love with the place when she comes to visit n comes out too.

True, I forgot about that. I know a couple of Nurses who applied for Nurse Registration back in May so they wouldn't have to do IELTS. They must be hoping to get a 457 visa as if they do PR then they will sure have to do IELTS
