How long are Police checks taking?

How long are Police checks taking?
Hi all.
We are now at the stage where we have had our medicals and police checks requested.
I only need to provide a UK police check but my wife needs to provide an Australian (AFP) police check and a UK police check.
We are waiting for the birth of our child in late May before we embark on medicals but my question is how long (average) are UK and Australian police checks taking at the moment?
We have a full response date of 1st August 2005 and I am feeling fairly confident that we will have our police checks returned before then. However, my wife will more than likely fall into category B for her medical thus requiring first landing within 6 months of police/checks and/or medical date. Therefore, I need to be careful that I don't apply for the police checks too early.
I would extremely grateful for any advice offered.
Cheers.

My partner needed one for teacher registration in Victoria. We got it back after a month. Others were getting them back in a week so it appears to be fairly random!!

Hi there
When we did our police checks we got a reply back from West Yorkshire
police saying that they were obliged to give us a response within 40
days. We got our PCC's back in 2 weeks 2 days though which I thought
was pretty quick! I guess if you allow yourself 40 days you should be
ok though - I guess all police services will have to provide details
within a pretty standard time.
On the plus side the PCC's only cost £10 each so if you did have to do
them again it's not so bad cost wise - not like having to do the
medicals twice!
Good luck with figuring out your timings!

Re: How long are Police checks taking?
Gave Data Pro form into Police station 19-2-2005, still waiting.
Phoned twice eventually told they had been sent 5-3-2005 (a Saturday ?)
and they must both have got lost in the post.
Waiting replacements.
So you never can be sure how long.

Think they are quoting 3 or 4 weeks. We are awaiting one at the
moment. Been at least 2 weeks.
The cheque was cashed very promptly. ;)
