Of course if you want to believe wild rumours then go right ahead, there's not much point in asking questions on a forum if you're not prepared to pay any attention to the answers.

Jeremy
i agree jeremy if they dont want to believe people who actually work in govt departments such as myself and pollyanna there is no hope in it and there is no point in coming to this forums without any trust best pay 1000's of dollars to agents and ask them. And again i can tell you
Government department dooooooooooooo nottttttttttttttttt close for a month

It seems a little strange though - how come I got my file number on December 30 and the money charged on January 2nd?

Perhaps the banks were on holiday!?!

ok got it govt offices are not closed for month. but i heard some people saying that there is period of one month during which lot of officials of ASPC go for a leave.actually i want to know about period of time during which less work is done so that will mean further slowing of processing of applications.

Strangely enough the Australian Government does allow its workers to take a holiday, and some of them probably take part of that holiday at Christmas - especially those with families, as that is when the long school holiday takes place.
However, other workers take holidays/sick leave at other times of the year, so I'm sure this will not cause a great delay to the processing of your application. But then, I'm only a govt worker, what would I know.

Unless DIMIA varies from year to year then I dont think this will happen. Check out austimeline for people who applied during that period last year.

Cheers

For crying out loud Jimmy which planet are you on? Common sense tells you that when you are allocated a Case Officer then you are in the hands of that 1 person unless they go sick or get the sack. Being a 'person' that person is entitled to go on holiday whenever they can use their allocated leave just as much as me, you or anyone else in employment - to REST. It stands to reason therefore that when your CO is in work he/she will work on your case as their workload dictates i.e IN TURN.

jeeeeeees.

These refer to the hours DIMIA offices are open to the public. Processing in centres like Adelaide will follow a different schedule.

Between now and the end of January things will be slower in most DIMIA offices but won't stop except for a few days like the Christmas period. This is true of most Australian businesses - from mid December to end January is the holiday period and with a lot of people away things in general move more slowly.

Incidentally, DIMIA officers do read this forum and what they'll think of people who seem to feel they should never take holidays is anyone's guess.

Right. Don't forget that Australia is at the height of their summer and they tend to take their holidays after "Schoolies" week.

Not quite. The 'Schoolies' episode takes place at the end of November.

The holiday season begins in the run-up to Christmas and continues until the end of January.

That's not to say people take 6 weeks vacation but most people will take at least 2 weeks between mid December and end-January. This is when school holidays takes place.
