It may be like asking how long is a piece of string but be gentle with me.
Does anyone know how long it takes for a 457 visa to be issued from start to finish, assuming no major problems.

As we lived in the US for 5 years do we need to get FBI checks done or is that just for PR visa's and the like.

I thought it was a long shot on the time scale.

Can anyone advise re the FBI part on a 457 visa as if I need FBI checks and fingerprinting I could get the ball rolling. I understand it takes about 13 weeks.
Just don't want to do any unnecessary stuff as I am already going nuts trying to sort everything out.

You generally only need police checks for 457 if you have convictions. Have you been asked to supply FBI checks?

No I haven't been asked to supply any FBI checks and have no convictions.
Just getting ahead of myself hopefully.

Well, we started the ball rolling in Mid-March (but employer was already an approved sponsor) and have yet to hear anything. Have been asked to get medical insurance but not for police checks or medicals (yet!). So, at least a couple of months!!!

If you plan to get permanent residence you will need them.

Is it worth getting the FBI checks done now.
We won’t be applying for PR until 2 years from now, if we don’t visit US between now and 2 years time will the FBI check be valid or will they need a more up to date check??
Any advice would be appreciated.

Spoke with an old friend over there in Perth, seems like around 5-6 months with an approved sponsor assuming everything is normal and no problems.:fingersc rossed:

My OH's company offer private medical cover do you know if that will suffice for us on a 457 visa
