hi,
I am still confused as to how to go about being sponsored by an employer.
Is a visa in case of sponsorship a foregone conclusion, ie points don't count???
In my case as a nurse, it should be easy to find a sponsor ( so I hear!) Is it a matter of simply sending in my resume or do I need to be assessed first ? ( or does that come after?)
God, it;s all so complex, my head is full of bits of contradicting information!
Help! I want a visa and a job, a job and a visa, I just want to be in Sydney
asap!!

Hi Ozbaz,
Firstly you have to work out how many points you are worth to australia, you do this by visiting one of the numerous sites that gives you a free points assessment on the net.
when you've done that you need to look at the DIAC website as to whether your profession needs to be assessed, but as to nursing i dont think they would do that in that case look down the path of TRA (Trade Recognition Australia) where you send them details of your qualifications and experience and they assess you on those items as to whether you are eligible for a visa.
There are different visas out there depending on your situation and points,
If you can find an employer to sponsor you, thats great, but I'm a plumbing and heating engineer and australia is supposedly crying out for skilled tradesmen and women but so far i've drawn a blank to employer sponsors.
We are at the stage of applying for state sponsorship to WA and thats b4 we can apply for our immigration visas.
Be aware that you have to be 110% committed to this process, and the waiting times are long and frustrating, and costly depending on you and your family.
Some people employ an immigration agent to take care of the process for them but this can also be costly.
Get as much information as you can, the forum and Poms in Oz are always good places to start as all of us are either still waiting to emigrate or have been lucky enough to get out there, but all wish to share their wealth of knowledge and experiences.
All the Best

Hi,
Im currently in the process of getting sponsorship in WA ad hopefully moving to Perth (im also a nurse). Ive went through a recruitment agency who will help you with all the documentation, some nursing ones are: Geneva, healthstaff professionals and clinical one, these are just a few who offer a free service. Just type in nursing in australia in google and your'll get loads.
If you go through one of these companies, you register with them and then they will get you to go about getting your nursing board registration whilst they go about setting up interviews for you. Once you have a job offer then the 457 visa is applied for, one agent told me that it can take as little as 8 weeks for the visa to be granted as its a work sponsorship one.
Im not sure how true that is 8 weeks seems a little quick but who knows. The longest part is getting your nursing registration over their as it can take a few months.
Hope this helps and good luck,
Naomi x
