Hope every one is doing great. I am a new member here who needs your valuable help. I am from Asia, now in the UK in HSMP( highly skilled migrant programme) visa. Since the government always changes rule retrospectively its quite hard to get PR and citizenship. So my plan is move to Australia where at least new rules only affect new applicants. So when some one enters Australia, he at least have pr and he knows he will get citizenship eventually.
I am 29 years old. I have a bachelor of science in electrical engineering degree from USA. I am working in the UK for last 2 years. So please advise me if there is any category where I can qualify for PR in Australia. I tried searching this forum and also other websites. It seems to me I need 4 years of work experience to qualify for PR. Is that true? Please guide me

Have a look at www.immi.gov.au - there's a visa wizard application there that gives you options. Also read Booklet 6 on there for information on the General Skilled Migration programme.

Australia also changes its rules on PR and citizenship from time to time - do not assume that this won't happen after you apply.

thanks for treply. yes australia changes rule but as far as i know all the rules are not reterospective. it means, if some one enters australia with a rule then it will be same for him all time. new rules only applies to new applicant. please correct me if i am wrong.

Yes, generally any rights are preserved via transitional arrangements with Australia so there is more security as you said.

Assuming your degree is recognised under Washington Accord you could score 60 for skills, 30 for age, 15 for MODL assuming you have been working in UK as an electrical Engineer or a closely related occupation. An IELTS score of minimum of 6 in each will give you the missing 15 points - so no need to work for 3 years in last 4 for extra 10 points.

so on the face of it, you are looking good.

Hi,
Being an IT professional, you need minimum four years of work ex in your respective field (which should be on MODL) to get yourself successfully assessed through Australian Computer Society. So wait till you complete your four years and then initiate your assessment process.

Whether he is working as Engineer or IT professional, the ACS can be bypassed (including their excessive 4 year experience requirement) and a simple Engineering assessment can be done on certain Engineering qualifications under the Washington accord. If he is working in IT it may depend on demonstrating that his IT experience is closely related to an Electrical Engineer to avail of this pathway.

Engineering graduates can apply for temporary Recognised graduate visas which allow 18 months of unrestricted work in Australia but you must have graduated within 2 years of applying for this visa - so that is no help to Nion.

If usung a migration agent ensure that they are registered. There is infoirmation on selecting registered migration agents on immi.gov.au. I am currently using an Australian agency called True Blue. They are based in Perth WA and they have been excellent with me..They will outline the best visa for you and the incurred costs for you regarding the visa and required meds etc and the cost of their service. All of these payments are split up so that the total sum does not have to be paid all at one time.
