Hi, I wonder if you can help

We got our permanent resident visa in april 2006 and validated it in november 2006. we went to australia for a month in march 2007 for a holiday and moved to the gold coast in october 2007 and then returned to the u.k. in june 2008. our visa runs out in april 2011.

So I think now we have lost the chance to gain citizenship after the 2 year rule, as we have returned to the u.k. So i think if we returned we would now have to wait for 4 years to obtain citizenship.

My question is, we are thinking of returning in 2010 and wondered what would happen when our permanent resident visa runs out in 2011, as we would not satisfy the 4 year rule for citizenship and no longer qualify for the 2 year rule. How would we be able to return to the u.k. for holiday. Do we simply get a new permanent resident visa until we can apply for citizenship. Or is it not that simple. trying to find out what is the best thing to do.

If you move back here in 2010 and set up residence you will be resident in Australia. Therefore if you would like to leave for holidays etc you would apply for Resident Return Visas. They're generally issued for 5 years.
