No offence but happy clappy words are not going to help you. Straight honest facts are. However you don't appear to want them, you seem to just want sympathy but in my humble opinion that won't help in the slightest.

Not wanting to repeat the advice offered by others but get your butt into an agents office ASAP or before. You have very little time and they probably know of some exception/compasionate grounds/exceptional circumstances that cover eventualities like this. I am sure this is not the first time this has happened in the history if DIAC so get talking to a pro. Also use every contact and appeal to the compassionate side of every potential sponsor you can find over the next few days to land another job and visa.

Can understand your desperate situation more so where the delivery is close by.
Since I had been in this type of situation less than 2 years ago where had I lost my job on 457 & was worried that I have to leave the country with in 28 days
Based upon my experience,
1st thing, 457 visa cancellation does not happen straight away automatically after 28 days mean don’t need to leave the country.
2nd thing DIAC issues the NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CONSIDER CANCELLATION (quoted below for your reference which I received by email not post and hope you should also receive same with allocation of case officer) based upon which where you can explain your circumstances & request for extension on current 457 Visa.
This should not only give more time to search your job but will also help in delivery of baby.
Also eventually giving sufficient time to leave the country.
I happened to be in touch with my case office she was very friendly & stated that they are lenient on guys who loose their jobs ,so just be in touch with them .
I am sure that DIAC will understand your dire situation. Good luck
Can also drop a private massage with your contact no in case of anything else.

Dear Mr xyz
It has come to the department’s attention that there may be a ground for cancellation of your subclass 457 visa under section 116 of the Migration Act 1958 (‘the Act’) because you are no longer employed by your business sponsor, ABC PTY LTD. On 16 December 2008 the department was notified in writing that your employment with ABC Services P/L was terminated on 02 December 2008.
If this is the case, your visa may be cancelled on the following ground under section 116(1)(a) which sets out the following ground for cancellation:
Section 116. Power to cancel
116 (1) Subject to subsections (2) and (3), the Minister may cancel a visa if he or she is satisfied that:
(a) any circumstances which permitted the grant of the visa no longer exist.
The Act gives you the opportunity to comment on this ground for cancellation and to give reasons why your visa should not be cancelled.
You should give a written answer why your visa should not be cancelled. Your answer should say:
• Why you think the ground for cancellation does or does not exist, and
• Why you think your visa should or should not be cancelled.
You must provide your written response within five working days after the day you received this notice. You are taken to have received this notice on Tuesday 20 January 2009.
If you do not respond within that time, a decision on whether to cancel your visa will be made using information already held by the department. If you are unable to respond in the above time frame, you should contact me on (000000 beforehand to seek an extension of time. Please note that the time for responding to this notice may only be extended by 5 working days.
Deciding whether to cancel your visa is a two-step process. Firstly, an officer will decide whether there is a ground for cancellation of your visa. Your written response will be taken into account.
Secondly, if the officer decides that there is no ground for cancellation, your visa will not be cancelled. If the officer decides that there is a ground for cancellation, a decision will be made whether or not to cancel your visa. Your written response will be taken into account.
The decision-maker will take into account matters such as:
• The purpose of your travel to and stay in Australia.
• The extent of your non-compliance with any conditions subject to which your visa was
granted.
• The degree of hardship which may be caused to you and any family members if the visa is
cancelled.
• The circumstances in which the ground for cancellation arose.
• Your behaviour in relation to the department, now and on previous occasions.
You should address these matters in your response and any other matters you think relevant.
If your visa is cancelled you will become an unlawful non-citizen, unless you are granted a further visa. If you have made a further substantive visa application since your arrival in Australia, any bridging visa you were granted in relation to that application ceases at the end of the day your visa is cancelled.
If you become an unlawful non-citizen, you may be detained and may be removed from Australia. If you have family unit members (e.g., spouse, dependent children) in Australia who hold visas because you hold a visa and your visa is cancelled, their visas will also be cancelled. If a person (other than a family unit member) holds a visa because you hold a visa and your visa is cancelled, then that person’s visa may also be cancelled.
If you have any queries, please contact me on 000000 or at [email protected]
Yours sincerely

Can understand your desperate situation more so where the delivery is close by.

I think process should remain the same that every 457 visa holder should be given the opportunity by DIAC to explain his/her case via NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CONSIDER CANCELLATION (OP can call directly DIAC to ascertain the same ,as I had visited the local DIAC office at that time)
This will help OP not to worry about the leaving the country in 28 days.
I understand this should give him respite and let him concentrate on bigger task at hand that is the delivery...rest can follow later...

Ya with due respect ,he will be given due opportunity & time to get his visa status sorted via Notice Of Intent of Cancellation where he can stat his circumstances to DIAC with supporting evidence etc,is not it?

hi my partner and i are on a 457 visa .and i lost my job last week long story ..but my big prom is my partner sandra is due our first child next week .as i am looking for another sponsor .i know i have 28 days to get one or leave country ..even when my 28 days are up i can not fly home or will not leave my partner here with new child ..does any one have any answer please we are at breaking point just now any advice would be so helpful

I was in teh same situation like your teh only diff was that i visa finished on 8th may and i found another employer but i did dig out all info as i was not sure whther i will be able to find an employer so here it is.
when you finish or loose your job and your vis ais finishing you get 28 day to leave the country or find another employer.
but if you have a genuine reason like kids school or pregnancy etc, if you speak to DIAC they will consider you situation and give you a temp visa like a visit visa etc where you can stay here leagally and also find another employer and in teh meantime your wife can give birth and they will extend teh visa untill teh doctor says its safe for her to travel back.
so calm down and have a chat with DIAC i woudl recommend to visit tehm personally and alos speak to your case officer.
they are very considerate and understanding in such situations.
good luck.
