Just wanted to say hi to all new to the forum and to whole migration
thing. Have read some very interesting points on here. Here is where we
are at in the process of moving to brome:
Visa : 457 4yrs
Employer Nomination approved
Visa app lodged Online
Xrays completed
I have read on here loads about getting PR from a 457 which is
something I would consider once I have been in Oz for a while. I am
currently over 45 but highly skilled and train apprentices - all
mechanical fields . Would I be eligible to apply for PR once in OZ any
comments??
Many Thanks
Mack

I was in the same situation.
Came here on a 2 year 457 but converted it to RSMS after 6 months.
I only came on the 457 after getting assurances from the employer that they would sponsor me for the RSMS providing the 3 month trial period went okay.
As I mentioned in the other thread it would be preferable to get RSMS before coming but I now see you are already some way down the line on the 457 application.
Apply for the RSMS as soon as you can. The farther away from 45 you get the harder it will be.
Because of your age you need to go the RSMS route so you better try to get the asurances from your employer.

He can apply for ENS or RSMS - if he meets the requirements. In both cases, DIMIA will have to be persuaded to waive the age bar.
RSMS is not available in some parts of Australia (it is in Broome, however).
Someone aged 45 or over ought to consider sorting out a permanent visa before leaving the UK.

Hi Mack,
 Looks like someone has given you a wrong information!!
Migration has brought about a big change to our life and I am sure many
are in the same boat :p .
To give you an idea, it needs in depth analysis of the scenario(I mean
the case),extensive paper work (which directly indicates the run around
to be done to collect them from the time of your birth) and of course a
whole lot of patience and good humor :D !
Make sure that you have all the time(or atleast someone in your family)
to keep things uptodate including the course of the steps involved, and
time to time requirement of documents.I guess most of us spend time
counting our fingers and toes to know the number days and weeks going
by after applying for the visa.
But maybe your visa category is better off, but anyway all the best
with every procedure!!

Hi Greek Goddess,
I hope the planned move does go ahead, as we do feel it will be the
biggest change in our life (a change for the better). :D I think I
will need to borrow a few hours and maybe even create some just to get
through the reading up bit. But we are lucky that most of the forms are
completed online saves a bit of time and trees too. Imagine the amount
of forms I would have had to throw away and redo
Thanks for your good wishes (LOL)
