Others will be along with more info but don't think references count for anything , visa wise. Her occupation will need to be on the "wanted" lists - think its called SOL.
Be prepared for some negative comments - it's only folks wanting to give you the best advice, life as an expat is not the same as a working holiday! good luck to your friend though. Try using the search function above for something like "hairdressers in Australia" - there is bound to be some info!

There are two lists - SOL and CSOL. If the skill/role is only on the CSOL then sponsorship of some kind is required.
SOL doesn't require sponsorship.

Has she tried the salons she worked for previously? I was going to suggest she come over on a WHV and try to secure something, but as she has already used that up no longer possible -,but it was her best chance of finding a sponsor.

I wonder if the thread would be better in the main Australia forum as this isn't really a visa question, but more of a "does anyone know a salon looking for staff" type of question and some on the ground knowledge might be useful.

From a visa perspective, there is nothing to do at this point other than plug away at job applications.

Queensland are not sponsoring hairdressers at the moment but if she does go out on a working holiday visa as bermudashorts said above, and she gets a job, it may be possible to get sponsorship from Queensland for a skilled sponsored visa (assuming she can meet all the other requirements).

She can only work for the same employer for 6 months at a time, so if she does go out on a working holiday, and she gets a job and she and the employer are happy, she needs to start looking into her next visa option asap.

She's used the WHV option already, so no go there.

Actually I said it might have been her best option, if she had not used the WHV already. But she has, so now it is not an option at all.
