Got our visa - Only two months notice - HELP
Hi,
I received an email today informing me that our visa's had been granted under the condition that we enter the country by 30th April. Obviously we are delighted, but we were expecting a little more notice as to when we had to enter the country. It seems that usuallly you get a 6-9 months entry period.
I am aware that you can enter and return, but it wouldn't be worth that as we were hoping to go in June/July anayway. I guess we just have to try hard to wrap things up here a little quicker.
If anyone out there has recieved a similiar email, or has any ideas why the notice period is so short, I would be very garteful for your views and advice.
Good Luck to those still waiting.
Please don't think I am looking a gift horse in the mouth.
I have included my visa details below.
Applied 20th March 2002 (front loaded)

The entry date is normally 12 months from the date of your police check or medical which ever was the earliest - so when were these done?

Oh yes - They were done around April time.
Have you ever heard of anyone extended the initial entry period by getting new medicals/police checks?

If you are planning to sell a house, then it may be unwise to have to
try and wrap everything up by the end of April.
Doing a validation trip may cost money, but the additional bargaining
power it will give you in any house sale could well be worth it.
Once again, it illustrates that for the majority of applicants,
front-ending medicals and police checks is *not* generally a good
idea.
Come what may, you must validate your visa by the end of April. If
you read this group regularlu, you should be aware that it's much
harder for IT people to get accepted for PR from overseas now than it
was a year ago when you applied.

Just on that point about first arrival dates if for example an applicant did their medicals and police clearances as follows ...
Medical & X-ray for Person 1 - 10th April 2002
Rest of medicals for family - 10th September 2002
Police clearances for all family - 20th November 2002
On this scenario, the first arrival date would be 10th April 2003 (note the case officer can some times extend this for say 3 months - but only before visa grant).
My point is the medical on the 10th April 2002 could be redone now and that would mean that the first arrival date would become 10th September 2003. Is obviously an expense but is an option for visa applicants.
