Default getting in via new zealand

I've missed the deadline for applying for independent skilled migration before 45 (probably would not have got in with the new rules anyway) but am still determined to get to Oz one way or another. I'm now considering going to New Zealand first, does anyone know if this is a viable option as NZ has a higher age limit. If I got residency in NZ would I then be able to enter Oz?
Does anyone have any other ideas?
Hope someone can help, the Middle East is driving me nuts.

www.immi.gov.au Search for eligible New Zealand residents. Although, I think you have to be a NZ citizen to be eligible and that takes years.

To be deemed and 'Eligible New Zealand Citizen' you would need to meet one of the following criteria:

* were in Australia on 26 February 2001 as SCV holders
* were outside Australia on 26 February 2001, but were in Australia as an SCV holder for a total of 12 months in the 2 years prior to that date, and subsequently returned to Australia, or
* have a certificate, issued under the Social Security Act 1991, stating that they were residing in Australia on a particular date. These certificates are no longer issued.

kind regards

Cheryl

There is discussion in:
http://britishexpats.com/wiki/New_Ze...s_in_Australia

Bottom line is that New Zealand residents get no privileges, New Zealand citizens get the right to live and work but not automatic permanent residence.
