to get work permit before getting PR ?
Hi,
Somebody of you have described possibility of getting work permit in OZ.
The idea was to work for some time to get points for Australian
experience and then to apply for PR. Good approach.
My situation is different- I expect to get my PR in about 7-8 months but
want to be in Australia earlier so I wonder if applying for work permission
can not shorten this time.
As I understand the rules are similar as for getting PR aren't they?Passmark
115 points, assessment of skills, medicals etc.
How much time ( average) takes getting the work permission ?
Would I have to pay again for application and twice for medicals ?
All my papers including skill assessment and IELTS are already in Adelaide
( waiting for PR ).
Is it the way to be in Australia earlier?
thanks for information
Cheers
Nuta

Only work experience before you apply for skilled migration can count
for the 5 extra points.

It won't shorten your PR processing time, but lets you to to Australia
earlier on a temporary basis.

No, they're not similar at all. Basically, an Australian company has
to sponsor you.
>How much time ( average) takes getting the work permission ?
Not that long, but a sponsorship needs to be arranged first. You need
to have an Australian employer who wants to hire you.
>Would I have to pay again for application and twice for medicals ?
New application fee, yes, it's more complex as your employer may need
to pay to be approved as a sponsor first. The visa application fee
itself isn't very high.

Depends on your circumstances. It does risk that if your PR
application runs into problems, you don't get residence in Australia
and will have to leave.

Am I to assume that if you've applied for PR, you can still come and
work in Australia on a 457 Temp Business Visa?? I thought you could
only have one application for a visa at a time?
That might help me out, as I'm on a 457 Visa now, but my employment is
about to end. So I can go back to the UK, get the extra 2 months work
I need to fulfill the 12 from 18 months thing, apply for PR, and then
get back out here on another 457 visa??
Cheers,
Nick
