Floor Laying Jobs
Hi
Im brand new to this emigration lark and dont know where to start! My husband is a floor layer - vinyl, carpet lino etc... and also specialises in sports floors like outdoor tennis courts and sports halls etc... We completed an online eligibility form and they seem to think he will get in with no problems as he has a qualification in this field and has 11 yrs experiance. This is all well and good, but what do floor layers earn in Oz and where is the best place to start looking, also would I be able to sell our house in England and buy something nice over there - we should have roughly about £100,000 equity in our house so were hoping to buy something else possibly in the Perth area - I assume we will still have to take out a mortgage but hopefully small than the one we have now. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions or job offers ha ha ha!!! Any info greatly appreciated.

hi daisy
i am a floorlayer with 18yrs expierience . i sailed through my tra assessment and am now waiting for a case officer. i recently watched a programme on bbc called wanted down under, they were offering carpet fitters about £40,000 in Brisbane about $100,000 . i hope this is true , life could be very comfortable in oz for that.

Mmm, $100k sounds a lot to me. You really should look into that before getting your hopes up.
We were told Electricians earnt about that and when I looked into it they were on about half that. My hubby is on a decent wage for his profession (maintenance sparky) and he's only on $56 + overtime (about $66k a year altogether)
Here's a site I found when we were looking into stuff, see what you get from it. http://jobsearch.gov.au/joboutlook/d...=AlphaSearch#F
Sorry didn't want to rain on your parade, but thought you'd appreciate it more knowing now than after you get here.

Hi
Hubby is a floorlayer, we have been here 12 months, he has been working from a fortnight after we arrived. The money is here but you do have to put the hours in to earn it. Same as England really if you want to earn good money you must put in the hours, and be prepared to travel a bit.
Word of mouth means as much here, if your good your name will be passed around.
Hubby works on a self employed, sub-contractor basis, same as before we left the UK.
Hope this helps, if you need anymore info please let me know
Cal
PS, hubby says it is possible to earn the amount stated

Hubby hasn't had to work away from home at all here, although back in the UK he often was away for 2 or 3 weeks at a time and had to travel long distances for work as a regular thing. Here he just works all over the city and sometimes a bit further out. We are in the southern suburbs and even if he has to work in the northern burbs he has about an hours drive
Our way of life over here just can't really be compared we come from Birmingham, a very big city, and compared to that Adelaide is homely and feels totally different. We are all loving it
Please be reassured that if your hubby is good at the floor laying he will have no trouble getting work. The vinyl etc all pays better than the carpet laying though. Also prices here are by linear mtr not square like back in the UK
Good Luck

Hi Daisy
Where to live is a very personal decision, wouldn't dare to tell you to avoid anywhere. We like nearly all the burbs we have looked at north and south.
I think a lot depends on where you are coming from and what you are hoping for. Coming from a big city we wanted to live near the coast and not right by the city, so we chose a suburb we liked that was south of the city.
Have a good look on adelaidebrits they have a section that details quite a few suburbs, lots of info on there.
BTW I don't mind the questions at all
